My Insider Guide

photographing the preserve

The Preserve at Canyon Lake is a white stone estate in Canyon Lake, Texas, with a lake, sprawling oak trees and panoramic views of the Texas Hill Country. It's a dream for couples who love a romantic, timeless celebration, and there are so many beautiful places for photos.

Your ceremony
The ceremony chapel is wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows, so your vows are framed by greenery and Hill Country views, and the soft natural light is so flattering in every photo. It's also a cool, comfortable escape from the Texas heat. Dreaming of an outdoor ceremony? The Preserve now offers one behind the venue, with the lake as your backdrop.

Portraits by the lake
The lake and the oak trees around it are my favorite backdrop for bride and groom portraits, especially in the warm light before sunset, when a long veil catches the breeze.

The estate
The white stone estate, its arched entry and the wide stone steps are perfect for bridal portraits and big bridal party photos, and the staircase inside makes a stunning spot for a dress reveal.

Your reception
The reception hall, with its wood-beamed ceiling and walls of windows, is bright and airy for your details, then glows with candlelight once the dancing starts. I'll plan your photo timeline around the best light for your date.

Where are the best photo spots at The Preserve at Canyon Lake?
The lake and the oak trees around it for bride and groom portraits, the glass-walled ceremony chapel, the white stone estate with its arched entry and wide stone steps, and the staircase inside for bridal portraits.

Can we have our ceremony and reception at The Preserve?
Yes. Abby and Hayden, Kelsey and Gavin, Jessica and Travis, Caroline and Ben, and Caroline and Cort all said "I do" in the chapel and celebrated in the reception hall, with portraits by the lake in between, all without leaving the venue. The Preserve now also offers an outdoor ceremony option behind the venue, with the lake as your backdrop.

What if it rains, or it's a hot Texas day?
The ceremony chapel and reception hall are both indoors with walls of windows, so you still get bright, beautiful photos with Hill Country views. The chapel is also a huge perk in the Texas heat, giving you and your guests a cool, comfortable place to say "I do."

Should I do my bridals at The Preserve?
Yes! A bridal session lets us take our time at the lake, on the lawn and on the estate's stone steps without any guests around, so you get relaxed, timeless portraits before your wedding day.

How many weddings have you photographed at The Preserve?
Five weddings, plus bridal sessions, so I know the venue's best light and photo spots in every season.

Is travel included for a Preserve at Canyon Lake wedding?
Yes. I'm based in San Antonio, and travel within 120 miles is included in every collection, so Canyon Lake and the Hill Country are always covered.
